On October 27, the UCPath Center sent out the following open enrollment notice to all UC employees.
It’s that time again! Open enrollment started on October 26, 2023, at 8:00 a.m. PDT.
It’s hard to escape rising costs — and health care is no exception. To help keep medical coverage affordable for employees in the face of dramatic increases in costs, UC is significantly increasing its contributions to medical plan premiums for 2024.
Despite UC’s growing investment in benefits, medical plan contributions from employees will be notably higher. Cost changes vary widely by plan, salary and coverage level. Monthly premium costs for employees are increasing:
- For UC Blue & Gold HMO, by around 15% for coverage that includes a spouse or spouse and children, and up to 18% for self-coverage;
- For Kaiser, by around 26% for self-coverage or coverage for the employee and children, up to 74% for coverage of the employee and spouse;
- For UC Care, by around 22% for coverage of employee and spouse, up to 26% for employee-only coverage;
- For UC Health Savings Plan, by around 156% for coverage of employee and child(ren), up to 193% for employee and spouse coverage.
Look carefully at your options and costs to make sure you’re in the right plan for you and your family. ALEX can help you answer a few questions, and ALEX will provide rates specific to you, as well as estimates of out-of-pocket costs for care and side-by-side plan comparisons.
During Open Enrollment, you can enroll in or change your coverage for:
- Medical
- Dental
- Vision
- Critical Illness
- Accident
- Hospital Indemnity
- Legal
Your coverage will continue if you don’t take action, except you must enroll in the Health and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts every year.
