UCPath Notice: Rehired Retiree Benefit Eligibility System Updates

On May 11, we received the following update from the UCPath Center.


UCPath completed updates to internal benefit eligibility processes for rehired retirees to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

This enhancement prepares UCPath to determine benefit eligibility for rehired retirees and their dependents in alignment with UC’s benefits eligibility policy that will be in effect beginning July 1, 2025.

Key changes effective July 1 include:   

  • UC will offer rehired retirees who return to UC employment within 26 weeks (6 months) of retirement, and who meet specific eligibility criteria, the “Mid-level” faculty/staff benefits package
  • UC will suspend retiree medical benefits for any rehired retiree who qualifies for faculty/staff benefits, regardless of whether they enroll
  • When rehired retirees lose eligibility for faculty/staff benefits, because their UC employment ends or their hours fall below the eligibility threshold, they may re-enroll in the medical plan of their choice under the UC retiree health program
