U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published a revised version of the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification on August 1, 2023.
- Mitratech will assess these changes and deploy Tracker I-9 system updates by October 31, 2023.
- Subsequently, we will revise the Form I-9 and Tracker I-9 System training course and the corresponding performance support materials to reflect the changes.
Follow Standard Document Verification Procedures
In addition to the new Form I-9 announcement, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that employers enrolled in E-Verify will have the option to remotely examine their employees’ identity and work authorization documents under a DHS-authorized alternative procedure. This option is only available to employers who use E-Verify for all employee verifications.
As a reminder, Form I-9 document verification for new employees (both new hires and rehires) and work authorization reverification must be completed in person by either a department Tracker Processor or a designated Authorized Agent.
If you choose to use an Authorized Agent, you should meet with them and the employee via teleconferencing software (e.g., Zoom) to resolve any issues and ensure the Authorized Agent inspects the correct documents.
